warm turmeric milk tea

I wanted to share one of my favorite recipes today. This soothing, slightly spicy tea is so nice for sipping at night before bed or in the morning instead of coffee. It is also excellent for reducing inflammation and pain. 

warm turmeric milk tea
serves 3-4

2" fresh turmeric root, peeled
2" fresh ginger root, peeled
1 cinnamon stick
1 tablespoon black peppercorns
1 teaspoon cardamom pods
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups unsweetened hemp milk (or other milk of your choice)
honey or maple syrup to taste

In a medium saucepan, add hemp milk, cinnamon stick, peppercorns, and cardamom pods. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Using a microplane grater (or a regular grater if you don't have one), start grating in your peeled turmeric and ginger. Turn heat down to low and gently simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in vanilla and sweetener of your choice and simmer for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Use a strainer to pour into serving container. Enjoy!
